SPIRAL STAIRCASE MASTERPIECE
In a exclusive Texas ranch, a sculptural spiral staircase rises four stories, seamlessly linking each floor to a rooftop deck with panoramic views of post-oak woodlands and the client’s prized horses. This is not just an architectural feature, it’s a monument to artisanal metalwork, equine passion, and collaborative precision. This project has been honored with the Palladio Award for Excellence in Craftsmanship, celebrating its visionary design and flawless execution.

A Fusion of Form, Function, and Symbolism
Created in collaboration with the architect Willson Fuqua, this project draws inspiration from the enduring strength and elegance of lighthouses, balancing industrial presence with refined detailing. Wrought iron serves as the structural backbone, while hand-finished bronze accents add a sense of warmth and quiet luxury. The pièce de résistance: two custom bronze finials that reflect the owners’ deep connection to their horses. One is a minimalist nod to classic architecture; the other, a dynamic sculpture of a horse, inspired by the Kentucky Derby trophy, that demanded over 700 hours of design refinement and anatomical study.
To achieve this level of sculptural integrity, the team employed the lost wax casting technique, typically reserved for jewelry. Every detail—from muscle contours to anatomical proportions—was revised until it echoed the emotion and energy the client envisioned.

Engineering Precision Meets Architectural Art
This staircase wasn’t just built, it was engineered with surgical precision. Designed to integrate with a future cylindrical glass elevator, every tread had to be aligned within millimeters. Advanced modeling software was used to plan the staircase’s continuous spiral, while on-site adjustments were essential to maintain structural integrity and curvature.
Over 14,000 hours were dedicated just to manufacturing it, a timeline that underscores the level of craftsmanship and coordination involved. The staircase is not only a sculptural centerpiece but a testament to what’s possible when design, engineering, and artisanship converge.

BUILT TO LAST, EVEN IN REMOTE CONDITIONS
Constructing a project of this scale in a remote location posed unique logistical challenges. Delivering materials, assembling the structure, and managing tools and skilled labor all required meticulous planning and execution. But for BELT, this is where we thrive, building heirloom-quality architectural elements, no matter the conditions.
At its core, this staircase tells a story older than the materials from which it was made, a story of passion, precision, and permanence. For the client, a lifelong horse breeder, the design needed to resonate on a personal level. And for us, it had to reflect our highest values: craftsmanship, collaboration, and storytelling through metal.
This award-winning spiral staircase stands not just as a functional structure, is a legacy piece, a symbol of the bond between humans and the spaces we inhabit.
